(Re)Constructed Worlds

Presented by The San Francisco Art Dealers Association

The San Francisco Art Dealers Association (SFADA) is proud to present a dynamic group exhibition (Re)Constructed Worlds at the 2025 San Francisco Art Fair. Curated by Callie Jones & Julia Li of COL Gallery, the presentation brings together leading contemporary artists whose work challenges conventional notions of space, place, and perception in a rapidly evolving world.

As the world undergoes profound shifts—geographically, politically, and technologically—artists are responding by dismantling and reconfiguring their surroundings. (Re)Constructed Worlds explores how contemporary artists engage in this process, breaking down and rebuilding landscapes, architecture, and spatial narratives to reflect the complexities of modern existence.

The exhibition highlights several key themes. One focus is on fragmentation, where artists deconstruct traditional landscapes, urban environments, and interior spaces, reassembling them through geometric or painterly abstraction. In an era dominated by digital mediation, where our perception of place is often fragmented through screens and memories, these works mirror our shifting experiences. Another key theme examines how artists reconstruct locations that no longer exist. Using archival imagery, AI-generated landscapes, and surreal reimaginings of familiar spaces, these works address the ephemeral nature of memory and history in an age of rapid transformation.

Additionally, the exhibition explores architectural tension, featuring artists who investigate the push and pull between rigid built structures and organic elements. Some focus on brutalist or dystopian cityscapes, while others examine the ways in which nature reclaims human-made spaces, highlighting the fluid relationship between architecture and the natural world. Ecological and urban shifts are also central to the presentation, as artists address themes of urbanization, climate displacement, and the reshaping of the land due to human intervention. Artists are currently exploring the tension between progress and preservation, illustrating the impact of ecological change on our collective understanding of place.

At a time when our environments—both physical and virtual—are in constant flux, (Re)Constructed Worlds provides a critical lens through which to examine the forces shaping contemporary life, offering new ways to interpret and navigate the spaces we inhabit.
