Stone on granite base
Presented by Scott Richards Contemporary Art, Booth B11
Woods Davy is a Southern California sculptor known for his innovative assembly of natural stones into gravity-defying compositions.
Influenced by Zen aesthetics and environmental consciousness, his sculptures embody an appreciation for nature’s raw beauty and encourage viewers to engage with the natural world in a more profound way. Working with stones collected from the sea or the earth in their natural, unaltered state, Davy creates compositions that emphasize the interplay between solidity and movement, permanent and transitory states. Smooth, rounded rocks are stacked or suspended in ways that appear impossibly balanced, evoking a sense of weightlessness. Each stone contains the story of its own formation bearing evidence of its own interaction with the environment.
By elevating natural elements into contemporary artworks, Woods Davy challenges traditional sculptural techniques while maintaining a deep reverence for the earth’s materials and forms. His work is a testament to the power of simplicity and balance in contemporary sculpture.
