MoAD, a contemporary art museum, celebrates Black cultures, ignites challenging conversations, and inspires learning through the global lens of the African Diaspora.
On view until September 1, “!!!!!” is a new body of work by acclaimed British visual artist and painter Rachel Jones, curated by Erin Jenoa Gilbert, premiering a new series of vivid oil pastel landscapes which continue Jones’ ongoing exploration into Black interiority and personhood. We will also be exhibiting “Unruly Navigations”, curated by MoAD’s chief of curatorial affairs and public programs Key Jo Lee, featuring work from various artists that testifies to the urgent, disorderly, rebellious, and nonlinear movements of people, cultures, ideas, religions, and aesthetics that define diaspora.
Also on view until May 19 as part of our Emerging Artists Program, “Value Test: Brown Paper” is an exhibition of portraits depicting fictional Black women rendered in oil on brown paper bags by artist Mary Graham. Our Emerging Artists Program highlights local, emerging, and mid-career visual artists and art collectives through solo exhibitions that reflect the cultural and artistic richness of the African diaspora.
