Artist Talk with Anida Yoeu Ali
Date & Time:
Saturday, April 18, 2026
1:30 PM - 2:30 PM
Location:
San Francisco Art Fair Theater
Join us for a compelling conversation between San Francisco Art Fair Artistic Director Nato Thompson and interdisciplinary artist Anida Yoeu Ali, exploring her groundbreaking performance series, The Red Chador. Conceived in response to rising Islamophobia and the policing of Muslim women’s bodies, The Red Chador features Ali cloaked in a sequined red garment, silently traversing public spaces to confront perceptions of otherness and activate critical conversations on identity. The discussion will delve into the evolution of this work—from its 2015 debut in Paris to its disappearance in 2017 and subsequent rebirth as a rainbow-hued collective performance—as well as Ali’s broader practice, including her acclaimed series The Buddhist Bug. Together, they will examine how Ali’s art navigates themes of visibility, resilience, and the power of public intervention.
